The Evolution of a Pop Surrealism Artist Profile: 21 Years in the Making

Looking back at my artistic journey, time seems to have flown by. It has been nearly 21 years of dedicated focus on creating art and building my visual legacy. Without a deep love and an unwavering passion for fine arts, I might have succumbed to fatigue long ago. While there is always room to elevate my professional milestones and achievements, I remain deeply grateful and proud of what I have uncovered in this lifelong quest. You are welcome to explore the deeper background of my artistic journey to understand the foundations of my work.

Finding Rhythm in the Contemporary Painting Process

Over the past decade, I have truly found a sustainable rhythm in my creative practice. I have developed a distinct aesthetic leaning and a powerful style—a milestone I deeply cherish and enjoy. Today, the creation of art flows organically. The themes and anxieties I explore are rooted in concepts close to my personal reality. This conceptual alignment is what ultimately sustains my productivity and drives my contemporary painting process.

The pre-pandemic era (prior to 2020) was a phase dedicated entirely to rigorous technical mastery. This period marked my relocation from the vibrant art scene of Bali back to my hometown of Medan. Returning after years of living away brought an internal struggle; I feared it would be impossible to find a resonant contemporary art community in this city, which initially clouded my creative mood. Yet, surprisingly, this isolation granted me the time and flexibility to refine my manual techniques, immerse myself in art literature, and experiment with style. What began as a challenging transition became one of the most prolific chapters of my career.

Digital Communities and Virtual Studio Discipline

Between 2020 and 2024, I captured a new momentum through the fast-paced digital communities on X (Twitter). The intense activity there propelled me to keep producing, occasionally driven by FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). While the digital sphere has its pros and cons, I chose to leverage it as fuel to keep pushing forward. It was during this phase that my mindset as a full-time artist truly crystallized: creating art was no longer just a response to upcoming exhibitions, but a daily existential necessity. Not a day went by without active studio practice.

It was also during this 2020–2024 window that I realized the crucial importance of documentation. To this day, even works that have transitioned to private collections are meticulously preserved in a dedicated digital folder. Building this archive is vital for me, offering a clear retrospective to analyze the evolution of my thoughts over time. Through the writings and documentation on this website, I strive to keep this living history accessible.

The Modern "Ninja Way" of an Artist Profile

Recently, the creative atmosphere on X has gradually waned, occasionally disrupting that digital momentum. However, as an artist, I am driven to adapt and pivot that creative spark elsewhere. I am currently utilizing TikTok Live to stream my work. My focus isn’t on the platform itself, but on leveraging it as a form of studio discipline to catalyze a transparent workflow.

I am not seeking validation—especially since this space is still new and quiet—but I find it an effective modern method to maintain the intensity of my studio exploration. It adds a unique, raw layer to my Pop Surrealism artist profile by showing the unedited reality of creation.

Visual art is ultimately a lifelong, unceasing journey. Every medium, platform, and geographical transition we navigate serves as a personal “ninja way” to decode our purpose in this world. That is where the true beauty lies. If you would like to witness my contemporary painting process firsthand, feel free to visit and connect with me during my live sessions via my TikTok account here.
